For the past four months I had the opportunity to live in Ashland, Kentucky. While my wonderful husband was working hard I seized every opportunity to explore this charming town. Ashland is a small, welcoming community with some of the friendliest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. It is also minutes from the border of West Virginia and Ohio. You can drive through three states in less than ten minutes. If you visit during Christmas you will be delighted by the festive decorations throughout the town and the small holiday festivals. There is plenty to do in Ashland and the surrounding cities. Some of my favorite experiences here included strolling through central park, taking my son to the highlands museum, and wondering around the downtown area and popping into a few shops. Here is my guide to some of my favorite restaurants, shops, and things to do in Ashland, Kentucky.
Restaurants, Coffee, & Desserts
M&J Cafe - Quirky and cozy interior. They have any flavor of coffee you could ever dream of, and the food is pretty good.
The Mill - Unfortunately, I saw a post that they were closing. I still find it necessary to add to the list because I hope, for the sake of those in Ashland, they decide to reopen. I went there every week I was there and loved the atmosphere, all-day breakfast items, and desserts.
606 Coffee Company - Drive-through option for coffee and food items.
Austin’s Homemade Ice Cream - In Ceredo, WV. Not far from Ashland but so worth the drive. They have a drive-through as well as tables to relax and enjoy your ice cream.
Tipton's Traditions - Bakery located in downtown Ashland. Stock up on sweets at this delicious bakery.
Double Drizzle - Tasty bakery items as well as take-home meals.
Things To Do
Take a stroll around Central Park - a beautiful park with a sensory garden and accessible playground.
Broadway Books - A unique bookstore with adorable decor and an interactive section in the back for kids. This is a must-visit for book lovers.
Superhero Creamery - located in the mall. They have frozen yogurt and ice cream, also superhero figures and comics. What makes this place truly unique is that they have a wall of ceramics you can choose from to paint in the store. It's a perfect idea for a date night or activity for the kids.
Catch a show at the Paramount Theater - Visited here for the Festival of Trees and Trains in December. Would have loved to watch a show here.
